STYLE NOTES

Art and Style

The art fair look

London, Miami, Hong Kong, Berlin and even little old Basel – these are just a few of the major incubators for new trends in art, music, cooking and style. It isn’t for nothing that these international capitals are overrun each year by a number of different avant-garde fairs that render them some of the most inspirational cities in the world.

At each one, countless artists, gallerists, critics and general enthusiasts come together to take photographs and, given the times, be photographed, so wardrobe choices are key. Whether you attend or just want to channel the look, here are a couple of ensembles that fit the bill.

A lively tartan print is subdued by an elegant color palette in a classic wool Canali Kei jacket whose unstructured softness is an ode to contemporary craftsmanship much like the works you might see along the way. A pair of penny loafers, light-colored jeans and a crew neck shirt in place of the more traditional button-down add a more casual touch to the look.

Blues fans can opt for an outfit that plays with the primary hue that was so dear to greats like Pablo Picasso and Yves Klein.  This sportier aesthetic also features a Kei, but in a dark blue and Bordeaux bouclé fabric whose uniquely uneven motif will place you squarely within the fair’s best dressed set. Wear with dark cotton chinos and suede desert boots to complete the outfit.
