Make the Most of this Versatile Classic

The blazer is a key component of a man's wardrobe. Whether worn as part of a formal suit or as a casual light jacket, it can be adapted for different occasions, depending on its color, cut, fabric and fit.

One way of making the most of a blazer this spring is opting for a style with a clean tailored cut and then dressing it down with more casual elements. Our wool-mohair two button peak lapel jacket is a good piece to start with for this look. Worn over a silk knit piquet shirt with bowling collar, and cotton-linen pleated chino trousers, it exudes stylishness and effortlessness in equal measure.

Unlined and slightly deconstructed blazers are also a spring-summer classic. Our models in cotton-silk with patch pockets or in pure cotton with three buttons – both of which come in a light, summery pale blue – are well matched with white or neutral-colored cotton linen trousers. For an extra-leisurely look, add calf skin loafers or suede espadrilles.

For more directional looks featuring brightly colored trousers or patterned shirts, the blazer can become a subtle element that harmonizes an outfit. Of course, in this case, it’s best to pick a muted or neutral color that both contrasts with and complements the most attention-grabbing piece of clothing. A red pinstripe shirt, for example, can be softened by a dark-colored navy blazer, while bright blue trousers look best with a blazer in a muted, neutral shade, like beige or light grey.
