Three ways to wear the velvet jacket
While tradition is important, it’s also good to mix it up once in a while. With this in mind, Canali designed a Gala Dinner outfit to present the team in a formal yet contemporary light. The look is set off by a luxuriant velvet jacket with a tartan print that appears and disappears from various angles, and that can be worn in several different ways.
The Gala Dinner. Pair the jacket with pants in a plain color and a white shirt. To undercut the dressiness of the velvet, go for a black silk necktie, rather than a bow tie.
The Mix and Match. Play with the texture of the jacket by pairing with a shirt in a contrasting pattern and light colored chinos. Tartan works well with both microcheck and pinstripe, which provide a contrast of geometry and scale.
The Dressed-down Denim. The fine texture of the velvet jacket contrasts nicely with denim in a casual look. Wear with a plain white tee and a pair of selvedge denim jeans.

THE LOOK
The modern-day tailored ensemble, which brings together complementary separates, revolves around the printed velvet jacket, paired with gray wool pants and a formal, elegant cotton shirt. The dark blue silk necktie, worn in place of the traditional bow tie gives the outfit a contemporary feel.
