A Gentleman in Milan

We've enlisted the help of Matthew Zorpas, digital influencer and founder of The Gentleman Blogger, to cover the most interesting events of Milano Design Week and offer up a bit of style inspiration. He'll be wearing Canali throughout – a series of elegant and contemporary looks that take you effortlessly from event to event, morning to evening. Stay tuned on this page and on Instagram (@Canali1934) for the latest updates.

'I love Design Week because it mixes the new with the old'. Indeed, many exhibits at Salone del Mobile showcase a blend of brand new objects and vintage pieces that result in unique and unconventional contrasts. The Wallpaper Handmade exhibit featured specially commissioned objects (all made by hand) revolving around a hotel theme and the Leclettico interior design studio revisited its past activities with beautifully decorated spaces including an indoor flower garden.

The denim shirt is one of the most versatile pieces in any wardrobe. It pairs perfectly with a Springtime blazer or, as Matthew says, “this denim shirt can be worn in various situations, even with a double-breasted suit and tie or under a sweater with chinos and sneakers for a more laid back look.” He finished off this casual yet sophisticated ensemble with a pair of denim-effect pants and comfortable suede sneakers.

For his first day at Salone del Mobile, Matthew Zorpas chose a Taormina suit in an eye-catching gray-blue hue. In his own words, Matthew is attentive to detail and always strives to balance classic elegance with unexpected details.

Matthew started off his Design Week with a visit to the up-and-coming CityLife area of Milan. World-renowned gallerist/collector Rossana Orlandi decorated an entire penthouse in one of the complexes there with objects and furniture that are unique not only for their design, but for the harmony they create as a whole.
