A HAND FOR AFRICA
ONG G.I.C.A.M. Onlus
'A hand for Africa' is a project promoted by G.I.C.A.M (an Italian group of surgeons) in Burkina Faso, that supports pediatric patients with functional problems in their hands in order to improve their job placement prospects once their schooling has finished.
In the poverty-stricken country of Burkina Faso, healthcare is extremely precarious and completely at the expense of the patient making reconstructive and cosmetic micro-surgeries often impossible. Between 2015 and 2016, the 'A hand for Africa' project brought G.I.C.A.M. surgeons to the country to visit with 224 patients at the Paul VI Hospital in Ouagadougou and performed 23 surgeries and trained local professionals in post-operation care and physical therapy.
